Fly Iowa Challenge

“A mile of highway will take you just one mile, but a mile on runway will take you anywhere!”

The Fly Iowa Challenge is a challenge run by the Iowa Aviation Promotion Group (IAPG). The IAPG is a non-profit group in Iowa that promotes aviation and aviation activities like the Fly Iowa air show and this challenge.

The challenge is to visit all of the airports in Iowa. There are currently 109 airports as well as several museums in Iowa. Many of these airports are in small communities where having an airport brings needed jobs and resources to these communities.

This page is meant to be a journal of the various airports I have visited. I have visited a lot of the airports already, but not always with a camera. So, I will be going back and revisiting those airports. I’m unsure if I will post all 109 airports here, but I want to highlight as many as possible.

Also, full disclosure: I sit on the advisory group for IAPG as part of my duties as the assistant director for the Iowa Space Grant Consortium.
